 Slow Burn
Conditions according to the weather sages were similar to yesterday but turned out to be a much finer day. Could be there was more sunshine due to almost no clouds or perhaps the wind prediction yesterday was average speed and today's was top speed. Either way it was a fine day for riding. Planned on another slow fat burning ride as have a race pace indoor ride tomorrow and not sure how the old legs would respond to back-to-back sixty milers. Rode again into the north wind for twenty-six miles of fairly gradual climbing riding through Watkins and up the east side of Seneca to Ovid. Passed an oncoming tandem south of Valois which was kind of surprising after seeing so few riders out last year. Legs felt great and churned off the miles without too much of anything happening, but it felt great riding in the warm sunshine. Caught a good tailwind and some downgrades on the leg to Interlaken. Decided rather than stay on the highway through Covert and T-burg that I would add a backroad climb into the route. Felt really good on the climbs although I wasn't going very fast, I could feel the good flow as I spun up them. I'm sure the tailwind helped but it was very encouraging after a couple of years of suffering on the climbs. Had a fast downhill to the highway going to Reynoldsvile where I was back into a few more miles of rollers. Though I was having computer problems as I was able to keep the fifteen mile an hour pace with the average watts near sixty and average heart rate of one hundred. Did a couple of accelerations on a couple of the rolling climbs to check out my instrumentation, and everything seemed to check out. Finished off the ride with a fifty plus descent into Montour down skyline. Got a few less miles in by adding a hill but was really satisfied with the ride overall.
